There are many reasons why schools across the country and around the world teach an incomplete and sometimes inaccurate history of our species.
There are only so many class hours available, of course, and two hundred thousand years of human history to get through, so it is natural that some of the smaller and stranger stories would get left behind.
More troubling for modern students however, is the undue influence certain groups have in teaching an inaccurate account of history in order to validate their preconceived worldview. The Religious Right in particular has been very aggressive about cherry-picking, inventing and misconstruing historical facts to promote their own agendas in schools across the country and around the world.
